I thought I would read this book to my first grade class during our first week of school. When I read it to myself, I found it dull so I won't bother bringing it to school for a read aloud.It does not resemble the Dr Seuss style books that we have grown up with. Limited content and very disappointing. This will not be interesting or engaging for anyone over the age of 4 or 5.
This was not what I was expecting. The book is very small...about the size of a board book. And it doesn’t rhyme or tell a story like the other Dr Seuss books do. If I had seen this in a store, I would not have bought it.
We get it. You're trying to capitalize on Horton and Dr. Seuss fame. But next time at least tell the truth. Maybe Dr. Seuss's "You are Kind of Dumb if You Think This is Seuss". Throw in a rhyme or two ... "You teach that everyone matters, even hufferpalumps with teeth that clatter" "You protect those who need it, no matter how tall or how small". I'm not terribly clever, however with no trouble whatsoever, I'm able to write a review, that will keep readers from being blue, even though this book really stinks (as in P.U.).
Disappointment is an understatement. I was excited to read this fresh off the presses Dr. Seuss book with my son. My joyful singsong cadence quickly faded in the first few pages. This book has no rhyming, no whimsy, and really no point. Boring, trite, and completely detached from any real sense of fun. Decent illustrations. But, other than Horton, there is nothing Seuss-like about this book. Buyer beware! Stick to the classics.
Nothing about this book exudes the Dr. Seuss most of us know and love except for illustrations pulled from Horton books. This is not a story. There are greeting cards with more words than this entire book.
I preordered this book based on it being a new Dr. Seuss book. with a good subject about kindness.I am so disappointed. Shame on you Random House. No rhyming. no cleverness. Not even the right size. A cheap money grab.
To call this a book authored by Dr. Seuss is incredibly misleading as it features none of the clever rhyming and wonderful messages that ALL other Seuss books have. The book may use the word kind but I think in the write up enticing people to buy it a little focus on the word/concept of honest would be in order. This is not worth purchasing since you will not get what you believe will wind up on your doorstep. Now let's see if a refund request will be successful.
In a world where there is a lot of unkindness, this little gem is a nice "greeting card" gift for those who have been kind, or a nice reminder for all of us to be kind. I sent one to all of our grandchildren and bought some for those who have been kind to me. I have received nothing but rave notices from those who received my gift.
