One of my favorite books immediately.

I have encountered many teachers throughout my life. Stephen teaches us about life through the power of story and not just any story but his own experiences that many of us can relate to. I am an avid reader and for the first time, I have discovered a book that feels like a good friend. I suggest you pick up a copy and share this with people you love. I know I will.

I didn’t know what to expect when I began this book. I tend to read nonfiction about spirituality, the universe and what life means. But this book covered the same territory through little stories about the writers experiences and what they meant in terms of spirituality, the universe and what life means. It probably made more sense than most of the nonfiction I’ve read, and is rooted in a person’s internal thought and feeling. I just finished the last page and this review page popped up, so I don’t really have specific lessons or knowledge that I’ve gained, I have to re-read it to delve into it all more thoughtfully. But the stories were all interesting and each brought up various perceptions about life/spirit from unexpected angles. I thought it was a good read even though I can’t point out specifics.

I saw the author interviewed on a Portland OR TV station and knew I needed to read this book. It is rich in reflection on faith and in humor, often self-deprecating, about our human condition. I've recommended it to several friends including one dealing with a terminal cancer diagnosis. I was deeply pleased when he emailed his thanks and said he found comfort reading it.

I saw an interview with Stephen Tobolowsky on a local Maine TV show that impelled me to read the book. I think most of us tend too identify actors with the characters they play, so I was frankly blown away that the insurance guy in “Groundhog Day” had written a book of such depth and wisdom. Of course, that betrays a prejudice about people in insurance sales. This book is funny, genuine, searching, sage, and intensely human. The latter parts are less well focused than the earlier ones; maybe that was his way of portraying his age. But he wrote the whole thing at his current age, and I found myself missing his earlier acuteness of insight and clarity of purpose as the book moved on. Still, there’s plenty to chew on throughout.

I loved Stephen's The Dangerous Animals Club when I read it a few years ago. I missed his speaking engagement last month when he was in San Antonio. It would have been nice hearing him talk about My Adventures with God but the feelings his story evoked as I read confirmed that it was the right time for me.His story at this time of his life was interesting, adventurous and spiritual. I am grateful he shared it!

I've met Stephen in person and he is truly the nicest man. This book had me laughing and feeling good about life with God. He has a true talent for writing a great book and making you feel like your part of the family. Thank you again and God bless.

Tobolowsky is a great storyteller and a genuinely funny guy. But on deeper inspection he is a serious philosopher. Finally found someone who is ahead of me on the journey willing to guide me instead of judging me.
